Supporting Our Community with Care and Remembrance

A compilation image showing all the activity W. Storey Funeral Service has gotten up to this October.

At W. Storey Funeral Directors, we believe that compassion extends beyond the services we provide — it’s at the heart of everything we do.

This October, our team was proud to take part in two meaningful community initiatives: Hospice Care Week and Remembrance Day.

Honouring Hospice Care Week

To mark Hospice Care Week (7th–13th October 2025), our colleagues Francesca Capaldi and Anthony Jepson prepared two thoughtful hampers filled with treats such as tea, coffee, biscuits, sweets and cup-a-soups. These were delivered to Zoe’s Place — a local charity-run hospice for babies and young children — and Teesside Hospice, which provides palliative care for adults in our community.

The hampers were a small gesture to say thank you to the dedicated staff who provide such vital care and comfort to families during their most difficult times. Both hospices received the gifts with gratitude, and we were honoured to show our appreciation for their tireless work.

“Their care, kindness and commitment make a real difference to local families,” said Francesca. “This was our way of showing how much their efforts mean to us all.”

Remembering Together

As we approached Remembrance Day, we wanted to involve the younger generation in an act of reflection and respect. Francesca reached out to Laurence Jackson Secondary School, inviting students to create artwork to display in our branch windows.

Working with Karen Blackman, Head of Art, and two talented art students, we received a stunning collection of work commemorating those who served and sacrificed.

Branch Manager Tim Hardwicke praised the students’ creativity: “The talent, effort and time put into the artwork was beyond what we imagined. We’re deeply grateful for the students’ contributions — their art has brought a real sense of pride and remembrance to our community.”

The artwork will remain on display throughout the Remembrance period (24th October – 14th November 2025), offering a space for reflection to all who pass by.

A Continuing Commitment

Both of these projects reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting our local community — from caring for families in times of need to recognising those who give care, comfort and hope every day.

At W. Storey Funeral Directors, we are proud to serve Teesside with dignity, compassion, and community spirit.
